Our family is definitely going through a transition from a nuclear unit together at home to full soccer-mom status with kids starting Kindergarten, pre-school, soccer in a few months, and Charles recently starting Karate.
If you find it hard to imagine Charles doing Karate, well, you wouldn't be that far off. Let's just say that he doesn't respond as quickly (or even as often) as the sensei would like him to. Then, when he doesn't do what he's supposed to do, he is made to do push-ups or sit-ups. . . except that he can't do a single one of either of those things. Should we be concerned?
We weren't holding out for Karate being his meal ticket anyway, and I guess he'll always have Joey (or Tori) to protect him on the streets. Still, he sure makes a cute karate student, don't you think?
Ready position!
Fighting position!
Roundhouse kick!
As a funny side-note, when Liz went on the first day she had to take the kids because I was out of town. Joey was of course very interested and wanted to join the class. Liz explained that the class was only for five-year-olds and above and that he'd have to wait a few years to start the classes himself. Joey defiantly said, "But I can do karate because I said 'Hiiigghh-YA!' with daddy and broke all the white stuff!" Liz was confused for a second and then realized that he was talking about breaking apart all the styrofoam in the TV box with me. . . last NOVEMBER.
He scares us sometimes with the details he remembers. In fact, just tonight, as they were getting ready to go to Karate and I was on my way home from the frozen Midwest, Joey said, "maybe the white Corvette racing car will be there." Liz shrugged it off as usual, thinking he was just babbling. Sure enough, when they pulled up to karate, there was a white Corvette parked a few spaces over. What four-year-old remembers things like this? Do I already need to have the talk with him that we are a Beemer family and NOT white trash enough to like Corvettes? I thought I would have more time than this on such important matters!

Your pictures are not coming up. Oh no, I think you need to show joey a few more pictures of farrari's and M6's, I think he just forgot what they really look like.
That's funny. Charles looks intense. Is he really liking it? Poor Liz, after being through Tae Kwon Do (Purple stripe belt) I'm sure she must be incredibly bored watching all of the "moves" I wonder if karate instructors make decent money. Hey, at least you get to be called master or sensei. Yeah, my boys better like BMWs or else! Have you seen the new M3s? They're sick. Check it out: http://cache.jalopnik.com/assets/resources/2007/03/bmw_m3_concept_1.JPG
So funny. Savvy could recognize other BMWs when she was 2 1/2 - Marc was so proud! brainwashing much? :) It is crazy what they remember huh?
I can totally see Charles as the "zen" kind of Karate Kid - giving advice like "wax on, wax off".
I don't worry about Charles because if he is ever in danger, he will figure it out mentally and escape.
Joey definitely has a better memory than his Grandma K. But there ar days that wouldn't be too hard.
Love the pics.
