Gone Fishin'

In the winter, TPWD stocks rivers and lakes across the state with rainbow trout. A few of these locations are right here in San Antonio, and yesterday I decided to take the boys out to Miller's Pond on the south side to see if any were left from Thursday's stocking.

It was a fun day and a nice time together. We threw a bunch of rocks, watched a cormorant eat a few trout, watched an osprey diving into the lake to catch his/her own, and the boys played often on the playground that was about 50 yards from our fishing spot. We were also one of only two people (out of about 30) to catch anything--a nice little 'bow reeled in by Charles that we promptly took home, cleaned, and fried up in some butter and lemon pepper.

Here are the boys at the lake, enjoying themselves. They were channeling the Cobb cousins with their ensembles. I could sense all the hard core (i.e., nerd) fisherman mocking me and assuming I had no idea what I was doing since my boys were in matching track pants and Gap hoodies. . . until we caught one (HA!). All of a sudden I was the genius and they were asking me all kinds of questions.

Here is a random shot of Joey, happy as usual. This was right after he ate some dirt. I asked him why he ate dirt, but he didn't have a reason.

On the way home from the pond both boys immediately crashed out in the car--in similar positions even!

After fishing I took them to a late lunch at Incredible Pizza, which is someone's attempt at re-creating Pleasure Island from Pinocchio, sans the turning into mules and being carted off to the salt mines. And while the place is pretty incredible, the pizza is just so-so. I'm not sure who was Pinocchio and who was Lampy, but the boys had a great time.

isn't that the same position that their dad does when sitting, and probably occasionally falling asleep?

Okay...I believe in miracles, so I thought we would just try again without anonymous, and voila, here we are for who knows why or how long.
So, great excursion and experience for the boys and Dad, as far as that goes.
Dad says it reminds him of one of his favorite Steven Wright sayings, "There is a fine line between fishing and just standing on the shore like an idiot."
We bet those boys were very proud to catch and then get to eat their fish. Did they help clean it?
Okay...looks like we can comment, but only under the anonymous choice. ???

I'm glad Joey enjoyed the dirt....and the fish. Looks like a great afternoon.

Hey nice Fish Charles! I resent that Steven Wright joke. But then again look at who its coming from. It should be...there's a fine line between standing on stage and telling jokes and just standing on stage putting people to sleep. Hahhahaha. JK That's funny that they fell asleep like that. I would go fishing here in the winter but I wouldn't be able to tie any bait since its around the 0'S at most lakes and rivers here. By the way its Macchidoo
