Our Nation's Capitol

About a month ago, Liz and Tori came with me to Washington DC for the weekend. It's one of our favorite places and, having lived there for two years, we were excited to be back. Tori even got a little 2-on-1 attention that third children rarely get.

We had a great time visiting all of our old spots and introducing Tori to the town. We stayed with the Kewish family down in Woodbridge. It was really fun to see Tori and her cousin Lexie together, since they are only seven days apart in age. They even had a 'cousin baby' sleepover one night when Liz and I stayed downtown.

We hung out, went fishing, celebrated the girls' birthdays and even had an adults only night out, where we had a great dinner at one of DC's top restaurants. We wish we lived closer to them and could watch the girls grow up together.

Here are a bunch of pictures from the trip:

James' nice largemouth bass on Occoquan Reservoir.

I'm not sure who is enabling whom, but it looks like they both know they shouldn't be doing this.

Tori sampling the cake that Natalie made. I must confess, I smeared the frosting on her cheek. . . and she didn't like it.
Liz and Tori in front of the Smithsonian Castle.

Tori on the Mall. This will hang in her office when she is a Senator.
It turns out that the Hirshhorn is good for something after all--a cool photo background (for those of you who don't know, this museum is full of very modern, very disturbing art).

My girls in the Museum of Natural History in the Mammals exhibit (hey, is that Aunt Kristy behind them?).

A quiet corner of the Museum of Natural History.

Tori at the National Zoo.
Cousins on the Potomac, with Memorial Bridge and Rosslyn in the background.

Tori and Dad on the banks of the Potomac.

Sorry about that--but at least we got a few comments out of it! Maybe I'll break the pictures more often...

Tori and Lexie could easily pass as twins. Maybe they could tell that to all the boys when they are at BYU together.

(Don't you like how I assume that everyone will go to BYU? I got that from Dad.)

I'm totally the same way--but in the case of my own kids, it really is up to me, isn't it? Being a developer of off-campus student housing is NOT a way to feel comfortable about your kids going away to college. Having toured countless student apartments across the country and seen/walked in on various indecencies and llegalities, I would seriously fear for my kids. Of course, I am still planning to keep Tori in our house until she is 25, so maybe it's a moot point after all.

Great pictures Joe! I have never been to Washington DC. I have always wanted to go. I can't believe how grown up Tori is getting.
