Imagine our surprise when we were at our very own Costco in Indianapolis and saw a tray of Char Siu Bao in the Costco deli. With my parents having lived in China for two of the last three years, and Liz and I having both made separate trips there, we had to grab them. We had both made the requisite trip to a fancy Beijing restaurant where they displayed all kinds of fish/eels/snakes/frogs/turtles in beautiful aquariums for you to order (this was also the same restaurant where my dad would make us try chicken feet), but the steamed buns there were the best. So we grabbed the last tray and had them for dinner that night with some homemade chicken fried rice. The kids loved them and Tori kept asking for "more bread please" even after they were gone.

Love it, love it, love it! Is the steamed bun filled with anything or plain. Yes, they used to line up forever for those steamed buns on the streets of Beijing. It is a staple for sure! AND, we would take them any day rather than some of those other tasty dishes they like. heh heh
These were pork. The filling was really good barbecue (not American BBQ) pork mixture which went really well with the sweetness of the dough. The kids scarfed them down quickly.
Yummy! Makes me wish I were going back to China for a shopping trip. What do you say? Are you up for another trip?
Looks delicious:)
I've only forced Ecuadorian food on Deniene once, and she did not partake of the chicken foot soup. By the way, what happened to the VEK posting?
Wow. You have brave eaters in your house. Belle won't touch anything that isn't yogurt or a grilled cheese. Sounds yummy to me though!!! (I don't know about the eel and snakes!)
Sorry Layne--the video wasn't working and I just got around to fixing it. It's back up now.
Carol: I will go back to China anytime. I would have to fight Liz for it though.
Amy: You have no idea how gross it is to see a bucket full of eels/frogs/whatever in the middle of a nice restaurant.
