Do not try this at home...

One of the things Liz and I have spent our time on lately is replacing our floors. This was a much bigger job than we anticipated, but we are finally finished and can really appreciate the sense of accomplishment--even if we see all the flaws.

Here are some pictures:

Our original living room--prior to Liz turning momentarily crazy and ripping up the carpet while the boys and I were at the Air Show.

This is how we found the living room when we returned from the Air Show. Clearly, Liz had lost her mind--or maybe she just knew how to force my hand.

A few weeks later, drilling anchors into the concrete sub-floor in order to secure the plywood.
Starting to lay the laminate.

Now the laminate is completely laid, we just have to install the transitions and the quarter round.

And finally some pictures of the finished floor and the room back to normal.

That looks so good, you guys did a great job! You want to come and work on the house here in Provo? ;)

That looks wonderful!

I want to replace the tile in the entry and in the laundry with wood flooring...Graigg is getting nervous with all my redecorating ideas...we've only been here 2 weeks. HAHA!

Niiiiiiice. I like the color of the wood. We're trying to match most of our living room furniture so its that color. I can attest to Liz going momentarilly crazy because I called Joe and Liz and she let me know about her frustrations. Which of course then I shared mine when we tore up the carpet at Mom and Dad's house since I swear the carpet installers put superglue under the tack strips. It looks so much different though and better. I also like how the piano looks with the flooring. It totally matches. Did you plan that?

I am so excited to see the end result!!! I KNOW the pain you went through....I still have to do the baseboards in our bedroom. Your pics were good motivation! I love it! Great Job!!!!!

Hey, a miracle we are on the Internet to begin with and then larger than that is that we can actually read YOUR blog and then into the comments--all great miracles...we haven't been able to see your or Kris' blog for a couple of weeks.

Anyway...LOVE the floor...I do want to put some in the Provo house somewhere...maybe our bedroom?

Good job Liz for tearing up and then both of you for actually doing it!

Thanks for the comments everyone--we were cursing the project throughout, but we (well, okay, I) am very happy we did it ourselves. The kitchen is next and I'm confident we'll be way better at it this time around.

Liz will shake her head no when she reads this, but it really is an easy process. Once you prep your sub-floor and cut the pieces (and that can be difficult), the pieces just snap together. It's a faux wood laminate on an aggregate plank, and they're not too expensive (we got them from Costco).

Heather--I totally understand your redec tendencies, because no house is ever perfect. We've done a lot to this house since we've moved in, and there is still so much more on our list. Graigg is probably right to be nervous.

Jon--I'm not surprised you like the color because it's called...Brazilian Cherry Wood! It took forever to rip out the tack strips at our house too, but the carpet wasn't too bad. Yes, those are outdoor loppers you see in the first picture. Let's just say that we still don't own lots of tools, and loppers cut tree branches and carpet amazingly well. The piano was just a lucky coincidence.

Jenn F--I know you guys understand what it's like, except you have done WAY bigger projects. A real rehab of a house, not just laying floor down. We are surprised at how much of a hassle baseboards can be.

James--I know all the cuts for the Pulte floor plan. I even got the flooring to look really nice against the curved bottom stair, which was no small feat. Keep me in mind when business ramps up...

Mom--That's great you guys can see our blog again and comment. There is no rhyme or reason for it, I guess. I've tried to republish our blog to an ftp server with Heather's help, but the process never completes without errors. I will keep trying.
